Omar Rajeh & MaHa Group: Zaafaran

“For us, there are some links to the tradition, some links to everyday life in Tehran, but definitely the core of the work is how we see things today, and this specific theme of sacrifice in us, in all its layers.”

Zaafaran, a performance by Lebanese choreographer Omar Rajeh and Iranian dance company MaHa,  was shown as a part of Moving in November -festival at Kiasma Theatre. Rajeh has worked in Beirut with his own company Maqamat since 2002 and has influenced widely the development of contemporary dance in Lebanon and its surroundings.

Oblivia: Do be do

“I realized, that I can’t rely at all on my own feeling about the performance, about how it went tonight.”

Performance company Oblivia performed Do be do, the last part of their five-year-long Museum of Postmodern Art -series, at Cirko – Center for New Circus in October 2016.

Elina Pirinen & Heidi Väätänen: Concerto under Waterlilies

Concerto under Waterlilies by choreograph Elina Pirinen and dramaturg Heidi Väätänen premiered in Kiasma Theater on September 30th 2016. It is based on the Piano Concerto no. 2 by Sergei Rahmaninov and is an independent sequel to Personal Symphonic Moment, which premiered in 2013. Health Special. Sami Henrik Haapala: The Real Health Center & Valtteri Raekallio: Neuromaani

“- A hydrogen atom is a hydrogen atom.

Esitysradio experienced two immersive performances that connect to the subject of health.

The Real Health Center by Sami Henrik Haapala and group, “the first performance in the world with a verifyable health impact”, was performed in the public space and urban forest of Helsinki 12th-21st of August 2016. The Real Health Center was in the program of the University of Arts Helsinki and a part of Haapala’s doctoral thesis.

Valtteri Raekallio’s multidisciplinary Neuromaani , based on a novel by Jaakko Yli-Juonikas, is being performed in the Maria Hospital in Helsinki from August 20th to September 24th 2016. Neuromaani is in the program of Helsinki Festival and is co-produced by Zodiak Center for New Dance and Raekallio Corp.

Anni Klein / Teater 90°: Wunderkinder

“What does neoliberalism feel like?”

Wunderkinder, directed by Anni Klein and written by Johannes Ekholm, was premiered at the Stage festival in Helsinki on the 17th of August 2016. It is a production by Swedish-speaking Teater 90° and it was performed in an office space in the borough of Kallio. Discussion with Anni Klein by Janina Rajakangas and Tuomas Laitinen, in Finnish.

Constanza Macras: I am with you

“Like this picture of the Syrian boy that is everywhere… it could totally be faked and that would not make it less interesting… After seeing millions of pictures of dismembered children you have to stage it in order to make it work. You need it to enter the language of publicity.”
